Violence, burglaries, feeling of insecurity... A survey with 17.000 respondents in France has given results that are highly

inconsistent with official figures.
The ‘victimisation’ survey has revealed that the number of thefts in France in 2010 was 4 million, while the police only

recorded 1.5 million. Similarly, 280.000 people (18 to 75 years old) seem to have suffered as victims of at least one act of
sexual violence (outside relationships) in years 2009-2010, while only 10.000 reports were made to the police over the same

period of time.
There is a growing feeling of insecurity: 15,8% of survey respondents admit to feeling "insecure" at their homes (compared
to 13,3% in 2008), and 20,6% "in the neighbourhood or in their village" (compared to 18,1% in 2008).
